Please Help Us Save Our Local Hearing Locations

The Governor has decided to close 11 hearing locations in the state including Kingston and Schenectady. Consider this:

  • Injured workers will have to travel, at their own expense, to other counties.
  • Why should injured workers be forced to go to other counties for hearings?
  • The high price of gas makes this a hardship on injured workers!
  • The taxpayer will not save money!
  • The insurance companies will benefit. They pay the cost for hearing locations!
  • Insurance companies always pay less than the injured workers’ regular pay and actively try to reduce benefits or pay nothing at all.

We suggest you contact the Governor and your local State representatives.

Dear Governor Paterson:

Please reconsider your decision to close hearing locations throughout New York State, particularly Kingston and Schenectady.

This decision places an unreasonable hardship on injured workers who will be required to travel to other counties at their expense (high gas prices, highway tolls, bridge tolls and other car maintenance expenses).

Workers’ Compensation payments are far less than my regular pay check, and my family is struggling to survive.

Insurance companies, not the state tax payer, pay for the cost of hearing locations. Thus closing the hearing locations saves money only for insurance companies.

Any increased cost at this time only results in my exhausting life savings, relying on credit card debt, borrowing from friends and family, and likely applying for Public Assistance and Medicaid.

Please consider the effects of your decision on the injured workers of the State of New York and their families.

Please do not close any hearing locations.
